Biographical Information

Ken Cloude was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the sixth round of the 1993 Amateur Draft. Moving quickly through the M's minor league system, he found himself pitching in the big leagues in 1997 at 22. The pitching-strapped Mariners were battling the Anaheim Angels for the AL West title. Cloude appeared in ten games, starting nine, with a 4-2 record with a 5.12 ERA. With the Mariners still desperate for pitching, Cloude spent most of the next two seasons in the big leagues. He posted an aggregate 12-14 record and a high ERA of 6.88. In 1999, frustrated M's manager Lou Piniella moved Cloude into the bullpen.

In 2000, Cloude pitched the entire season at AAA Tacoma, going 5-5 with a 5.14 ERA. The toll on pushing him too fast began to show, as he severely injured his pitching arm that year, missing the entire 2001 season. He came back in 2002, again pitching in Tacoma, posting a respectable 9-4 record with an impressive 2.33 ERA. 2003 was not as kind, as his ERA spiked two and a half points to 5.95. The M's had seen enough and did not re-sign him when his contract expired at the end of the season. He signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization and began the season in AAA. With the Durham Bulls, he was horrendous, posting a 1-2 record with an 11.25 ERA in just four games. His arm problems returned, Tampa Bay released him on May 8th, and Cloude was done at 29.
