Josip Brozinic has played for the Croatian national team frequently. He was 0 for 5 with two walks in the 1999 European Championship, backing up fellow teenager Matija Grofelnik at third base. In the 2001 European Championship, he hit .167/.250/.222. He was Croatia's worst-hitting starter in the 2003 European Championship, going 1 for 13 with a walk. He hit .167/.194/.167 in the 2005 European Championship and fielded .950 as Croatia's main first baseman.

Brozinic was one of Croatia's big stars at the 2007 European Championship, hitting .318/.423/.455 to lead the club in OBP and slugging while finishing second to Damir Karin in average. He was Croatia's starting first baseman. He also led the team in runs (5) and RBI (4).

Josip hit .231/.375/.462 for Olimpija Karlovac in the 2008 European Cup in Regensburg. Brozinic batted .364/.500/.455 in the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers in Karlovac, helping Croatia win a spot in the 2010 European Championship.
