Biographical Information

Joe Werrick broke in with the 1884 St. Paul Apostles, hitting only .074 in the Union Association, but in spite of that managed to come back with the American Association for three more years as an infielder.

In 1885 Joe played for Nashville in the Southern League. Ten years later, in 1895, he played for Minneapolis in the Western League.

In the winter of 1892 he served as a policeman in Butte. In 1899 he was working at Carnegie Steel Works, and still playing some ball, although it wasn't specified if he played professionally, semi-pro or amateur ball.

Oddly, Werrick was born in St. Paul and died in St. Peter.

"Joe Werrick is one of the best second basemen in the business. He made his debut in St. Paul eight years ago as a shortstop. From this place he went to Louisville, and guarded the third bag for that team until the season of '88. In '89 he played second for St. Paul, and the following season played on third for the Baltimores. Last season he was with Denver." - Sporting Life of April 2, 1892, noting Werrick's ability to play several different positions
