Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Holden was a young catcher who came to the major leagues for 17 games in 1934-36. The regular catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1934-35 was Al Todd while in 1936 it was Earl Grace. Both were quite a bit older than Holden.
He was with Williamsport in 1936-37.
Both Joe Holden and John Titus were born in St. Clair, PA and both died there. Titus also played most of his career for the Phillies.
He and Bill Holden are the only two major leaguers (through 2008) with the last name Holden.
He is not to be confused with another Joe Holden who has been a minor leaguer from 2005-08 so far.
