Joe Harrington played major league baseball in 1895-96. A middle infielder (third base, second and shortstop), he had to try to break into a vaunted infield of the Boston Beaneaters that included Bobby Lowe, Herman Long and (in 1896) Jimmy Collins. All were good players who had long careers.

Harrington was born and died in Fall River, MA, a hotbed of early baseball. Through 2010, over 20 major leaguers have been born in Fall River. Joe played in the New England League before coming to the majors, and played in various northeastern leagues afterward.

Sporting Life of September 21, 1895 reported on a horse-drawn bus accident involving the Boston team, in which Harrington was the worst hurt because his feet were entangled in the railing.
