Biographical Information[edit]

Joe Bitker was a successful starting pitcher in the minor leagues, going 17-4 with a 2.87 ERA between A and Double A ball in 1985. Used as a reliever in the big leagues, he had some success in his first cup of coffee - posting a 2.25 ERA in 6 games for two teams (the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers) in 1990 - but allowed 4 home runs in just 14 2/3 innings his second, and last, go-around in 1991. With Scott Chiamparino, Joe was dealt after a lone appearance with the A's to Texas for Hall of Famer Harold Baines at the 1990 trading deadline.
