Jim Knauss was a replacement umpire in one American League game, on April 8, 1991. That year, the regular umpires had gone on strike during spring training and the conflict was resolved just before opening day. Because the regular umpires did not have time to take up their regular assignments before that day's games, replacement umpires were used. Knauss was at third base for a game between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers at Tiger Stadium.
