Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jeff Ferrell made his major league debut with the Detroit Tigers on July 4, 2015, pitching the 9th inning of an 8-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. He gave up a two-run homer to Chris Colabello in that first inning.

Ferrell was a starting pitcher in his first minor league seasons after being a 26th-round selection by the Tigers in the 2010 amateur draft (the scout was Grant Brittain). After going 10-9, 5.54 for the Erie SeaWolves of the AA Eastern League in 2014, he was moved to the bullpen, and the results were immediate. He put up a 1.67 ERA in 17 games for Erie at the start of 2015, saving 12 games, then earned a save in his first appearance for the AAA Toledo Mud Hens on June 29th, That was when he earned his first call-up to the Show.

On September 18, 2017, Ferrell was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Ryon Healy of the Oakland Athletics. He never fell down or lost consciousness, but immediately jogged to his team's dugout and was removed from the game to undergo medical tests. It was his final professional pitching appearance as he signed as a free agent with the Baltimore Orioles after the season, but was released in spring training the following year.
