Jack Lytle

From BR Bullpen

Pitcher Jack Lytle played in the New York Giants organization from 1953 to 1954. He began with the 1953 Oshkosh Giants and then was sent to the Mayfield Clothiers, where he was 9-17 with a 3.82 ERA. He led the KITTY League in defeats despite not having a particularly bad ERA for that league and season. In '54, Lytle was with the Muskogee Giants but primarily with the Olean Giants (7-11, 5.83).

After his minor league career ended, he was in the U.S. Marines until 1958. In 1989, Lytle was inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame of Ohio.

Personal Remembrance[edit]

Jack Lytle was a pitcher on the 1953 Oshkosh Giants of the Class D Wisconsin State League. It may have been his rookie year. After about one month, he was re-assigned to another Class D club in the Giants farm system, Mayfield, Ky. Jack was somewhat small in stature, but a very good competitor. I think he may have continued his pro career after 1953, but I don't know what teams he played for. I believe Jack was from Ohio. Jack had a dry sense of humor, as I remember him from 53 years ago, and a somewhat ironic view of life. He seemed to get along well with teammates.
