Biographical Information

J.T. Stotts peaked at AAA then became a scout.

Stotts hit .409 with 66 runs in 56 games in college in 2001, finishing 30th in NCAA Division I and second in the Big West Conference in average. The Oakland Athletics chose him in the third round of the 2001 amateur draft, one pick before Lenny DiNardo. He was the second college shortstop taken by the A's that year, after Bobby Crosby.

In his pro debut, with the Vancouver Canadians, J.T. hit .270/.348/.307 with 19 steals in 23 tries. He was 5th in the Northwest League in stolen bases. In 2002, Stotts put up a .275/.363/.342 line for the Visalia Oaks, with 65 walks, 66 runs and 64 RBI. He fielded .943 with 33 errors at short. He led California League shortstops in assists (398). He split 2003 between the Modesto A's (.284/.363/.366 in 75 G) and Midland RockHounds (.307/.377/.352 in 46 G), with a combined 15 stolen bases in 21 attempts.

Stotts was then dealt to the New York Yankees with Eduardo Sierra for Chris Hammond. His production was down in 2004 with the Tampa Yankees (.233/.289/.284 in 36 G) and Trenton Thunder (.233/.311/.320 in 54 G). In 2005, he hit only .211/.293/.272 as a utility man for Trenton, also pitching one inning and allowing a run. He ended his playing career in '06, hitting .228/.320/.251 in 86 games for Trenton and .241/.338/.241 in 22 for the Columbus Clippers.

Overall, the Californian produced at a .257/.337/.312 rate in 617 minor league games, with 69 steals in 93 tries. He fielded .933 at short, .935 at 3B and .978 at 2B.

Stotts later scouted for the A's. He signed Bobby Crocker, Grant Green, Brett Hunter and Ryan Pineda.
