Biographical Information

Huascar Brazobán pitched for the Dominican national team before reaching the majors. His fastball has topped 100 mph.

He had a relatively late start to his pro career for a Dominican. He first pitched in the minors at age 22, going 1-0 with two saves and a 3.71 ERA for the 2012 DSL Rockies, walking 15 in 17 innings. He fell to 0-3, 7.78 for the Tri-City Dust Devils; while he fanned 24 in 19 2/3 IP, he walked 21 and threw 16 wild pitches. He led the Northwest League in wild pitches, two more than Johendi Jiminian.

Brazoban split 2014 between Tri-City (1-0, 3.23) and the Modesto Nuts (2 R in 4 IP). His control was improving as he walked 11 in 34 2/3 IP. The Rockies let him go. He next pitched for the Tiburones de La Guaira in 2016-2017, throwing two shutout innings. The Rockies re-signed him. He pitched in 2017 for the Lancaster JetHawks (5 Sv, 4.91 in 13 G) and Hartford Yard Goats (2-1, 6.29 in 24 G). That winter, he allowed one run in two innings for the Leones del Escogido.

He spent 2018 in the independent leagues, going 2-4 with 4 saves and a 1.99 ERA in 37 games for the Lancaster Barnstormers. He split that winter between Mexico's Charros de Jalisco (7.36 ERA in 5 G) and La Guaira (2-2, 7.11 in 14 G). He then made the Dominican squad for the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier. He pitched twice as the Dominicans won it all. Against Nicaragua, he relieved Gabriel Arias in the 8th with a 10-3 lead and tossed two shutout innings (1 H, 2 K). Against defending Pan American Gold winner Team Canada, he relieved Pedro Viola in the 8th with a 7-5 edge; he threw a shutout inning with no hits or walks, fanning two, then Juan Sandoval relieved. The Dominicans got a spot in the 2019 Pan American Games.

Brazobán remained with them for the Games, going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA and a victory over Cuba. He signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers for 2020 but the season was canceled due to COVID-19. In 2021, he was 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA in 16 games for the High Point Rockers. He was excellent in the winter for the champion Gigantes del Cibao (2-0, 0.46 ERA, .81 WHIP in 21 G) but struggled in the 2022 Caribbean Series (4 H, 3 R in 1/3 IP).

The Miami Marlins decided to give him another shot in the affiliated ranks. The hard-throwing hurler was 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, fanning 59 in 45 1/3 IP, when he got called to the majors at age 32. In his debut on July 24, 2022, he relieved Sandy Alcantara in the 7th with a 3-2 lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He struck out Oneil Cruz and got Yoshi Tsutsugo on a grounder, allowed a Jason Delay single and retired Kevin Newman to complete a fine inning. Steven Okert succeeded him.

He is the brother of minor league pitcher Gustavo Brazoban.
