Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Hank Gornicki of the St. Louis Cardinals pitched a one-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies in his first big league start on May 3, 1941. With the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1943, he was the winning pitcher in both games of a doubleheader (he started the first game and pitched the 9th inning of the second). After serving in the Army during World War II, he ended his career with the 1946 Pirates.
After his playing days ended, Gornicki was a mail carrier in West Palm Beach, Florida for many years.
