Biographical Information[edit]

Gene Carlson pitched three seasons in the farm systems of the New York Yankees and the Washington Senators from 1953 to 1957.

Carlson began his professional career with the Pioneer League Boise Yankees in 1953. He had a record of 11-5 with a 4.42 earned run average in 22 games. At the plate, Carlson hit .276 with 9 doubles, a triple, and a home run. In 1954, he moved on to the California League Modesto Reds where he posted a 8-2 record with a 3.43 ERA while his batting average slipped to .244.

The final season of his career was split between the Peoria Chiefs of the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League and the Pioneer League Missoula Timberjacks in 1957. His combined record was 2-4.

Following his baseball career, Carlson became the football coach for his alma mater Great Falls High School from 1958 to 1973. While there, his teams won four Class AA state championships. He compiled a high school coaching record of 108-32-8.

In 1958, Carlson also started 24 years with the Montana Air National Guard and held the rank of Lt. Colonel when he retired in 1982.

Carlson was the head football coach for the University of Montana from 1976 to 1979.

Carlson retired to Pasco, WA where he passed away in June 2009.
