Biographical Information[edit]

Frank McCormick was a baseball coach.

In college, McCormick was the captain of both the football and baseball teams and also played basketball. He became the first South Dakotan to play in the NFL, doing so in 1920-1921. He was assistant football coach at the University of Illinois then coached all sports at Columbus College. From 1930-1941, he was head baseball coach and assistant football coach at the University of Minnesota. He went 138-89-1 on the diamond and won Big Ten Conference titles in '33 and '35, the team's first two such titles. He was athletic director at Minnesota from 1933-1950. He also served on the US Olympic Committee and in developing American Legion baseball. He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
