In 1962, the Fox Cities Foxes moved from the Three-I League to the Midwest League as the Appleton Foxes, before changing back to the Fox Cities moniker after one season. In 1967, the Appleton name was revived yet again.

Notable alumni of the Foxes include Dean Chance, Pat Gillick, Bill Melton, Boog Powell, Zoilo Versalles, and skipper Earl Weaver.

Personal Remembrance

I was a right-handed pitcher on the 1958 Fox Cities Foxes. I had been out of baseball in 1956 and 1957. This was my last year in pro baseball, as I was giving it "one more try." I didn't pitch very much in 1958, and was released by the organization after about 4 or 5 weeks into the season. I am uncertain what my final record was, but I may have won one or two games at best. Our manager was Pete Suder, former major league second baseman with the Philadelphia Athletics. Other players I remember were Ron Bloodworth (RH pitcher), Bill Felker (RH pitcher), Rene Nodarse (RH pitcher), and possibly Ted Sadowski (?) (RH pitcher). Bob Tanno was shortstop, Valdespino was outfielder. Appleton is located on the Fox River in what is called the Fox River Valley. Other small cities very close by are Neenah and Menasha. Thus the name in 1958 of the "Fox Cities Foxes." Another team in the league was Green Bay, Wis, which was managed that year by former Dodger great, Pete Reiser. This was also the rookie year for Green Bay's Frank Howard, who became a famous power-hitter in the major leagues.
