Description:

Card mounted formal portrait of George "Mooney" Gibson, his wife and young son and daughter.

Notes:

George "Mooney" Gibson (1880-1967)was the only Canadian baseball player ever to star in a World Series and go on to become a major league manager (Source: "100 Fascinating Londoners", edited by Michael Baker and Hilary Bates Neary). Mooney Gibson was married to Margaret (neé McMurphy) (1879-1953). It's believed that the young boy in this portrait is their son George, who was born February 19, 1901 and the young girl is their daughter, Marguerite who was born December 3, 1902. A guess has been made that this undated photograph was taken ca. 1905-1907.
The Gibson home, now demolished, stood at 252 Central Avenue, the location shown on the map.
The photographer's imprint can be seen on the lower left hand side of the photograph.
The inscription on the back referring to George Gibson is a reference to the son, George (born 1901) who married Mary Wilkey.
