Biographical Information[edit]

Edwards pitched two innings of the game on September 11, 1875 for the 1875 Brooklyn Atlantics who were at the time in last place with a record of 2-37. He also played the outfield that day and batted five times. The Atlantics lost the game 13-6 to New Haven, which was 5-35 going into the game.

There was no other major leaguer at the time with the last name Edwards, and the next one would not come along until Ralph Edwards made his debut in 1915. There are also few known minor leaguers with the last name Edwards in the nineteenth century.

According to one source [citation needed], there was a Charles Edwards of San Francisco that listed his occupation as base ball player in the 1880 census, and that could potentially be this Edwards.
