Biographical Information[edit]

OF Dustin Harris was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the 2019 amateur draft. He spent the 2019 season in the A's organization, splitting his time between the AZL Athletics Green and the Vermont Lake Monsters, hitting a combined .325/.403/.407 in 58 games, while playing mainly first base. On September 18, 2020, while the minor leagues were shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic, he was traded to the Texas Rangers as one of two players to be named later in return for P Mike Minor, the other being OF Marcus Smith. He was completely under the radar at that point of his career.

He resumed his playing career in 2021 with the Down East Wood Ducks and the Hickory Crawdads, hitting .327/.401/.542 in 110 games. This time, he played first and third base, and added some power: after hitting just 1 homer in 2019, he hit 20 that year, while also driving in 85 runs. He was named an organizational All-Star at the end of the season, and also the Rangers' Minor League Player of the Year. In 2022, he was promoted to the Frisco Rough Riders of the AA Texas League where he was moved to the outfield and continued to hit. He was named to the American League team for the 2022 Futures Game and drive in the first run of the game with a 1st-inning single off Bobby Miller, scoring Gunnar Henderson from third base. He added a walk in the 3rd inning and scored on Matt Wallner's home run. He batted .257 in 85 games, with 17 homers and 66 RBIs. In 2023, he split the season between Frisco and the AAA Round Rock Express, hitting a combined .259/.378/.431 in 127 games with 14 homers and 60 RBIs.

Dustin reached the majors on the penultimate day of the 2024 season, starting at DH for the Rangers against the Los Angeles Angels and going 0 for 2 with a walk before being replaced by pinch-hitter Jonah Heim. He had spent the season back at Round Rock where he posted some good numbers, with a slash line of .272/.358/.391 in 131 games, with 81 runs, 10 homers and 53 RBIs. He played mostly center field and left field on defence.

His father David Harris and brother Dylan Harris both played briefly in the minor leagues.
