Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Don Rose hit a home run in his first major league at bat. It came on May 24, 1972, for the California Angels against the Oakland Athletics. The homer was hit off Diego Segui with one out and no one on base in the top of the 3rd inning. Don was making his first career start after a few relief appearances and won the game, 6-5, in spite of allowing 5 runs in 6 innings.

He was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 11th round of the 1968 amateur draft and made his debut for them on September 15, 1971, pitching 2 innings of scoreless relief in his only appearance of the season. On December 10th, he was traded to the Angels along with Frank Estrada and Nolan Ryan in return for Jim Fregosi in a move the Mets would soon regret.

Don was born on the same day, March 19, 1947, as Angel Mangual and Garry Jestadt.
