Biographical Information[edit]
Dick Bergquist is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Bergquist played both baseball and football at UMass, which retired his number 26. He coached UMass from 1967-1987, going 392-321-5 and setting the school record to wins. He took the school to the 1969 College World Series. He coached Mike Flanagan, Jeff Reardon and Gary DiSarcina at UMass. He was head coach of Team USA for the 1975 Intercontinental Cup, when the country won its first Intercontinental Cup. His son Carl Bergquist was on the team. He coached for the US in 1981; they won both the 1981 World Games and 1981 Intercontinental Cup. He was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 1999.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a fullback a UMass.
