Biographical Information[edit]
Denis Brodeur co-authored the book Les Expos: Du Parc Jarry au Stade Olympique (1996) with journalist Daniel Caza and served as the official photographer of the Montreal Expos for a spell. He was at the employ of the daily La Presse newspaper for many years, and his full-page photos of Expos stars in action were a very popular feature of the paper's week-end color supplement, Perspectives. His photographs have been used in other works about the Expos and baseball in Québec, such as Une vue du champ gauche (2003).
He is also known for his work as a hockey photographer and was considered one of the best ever. His photograph of Paul Henderson and Yvan Cournoyer celebrating after scoring the winning goal of the 1972 Canada-USSR Summit Series is considered iconic. He was a goaltender for Team Canada when they won a bronze medal at the 1956 Olympics and was the father of hockey star Martin Brodeur. Another son, Claude Brodeur, played for a couple of seasons in the Montreal Expos organization. As a youth, he was considered one of the best amateur players in Quebec, with the Ville-Marie team in Montréal, QC coached by Charlie Culver, but never played professionally.
