Chris Smith

Biographical Information[edit]

Chris Smith earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Wagner College in 2014. He played baseball one year at Ellsworth Community College before transferring to Wagner. Smith worked in a variety of business related jobs while gradually moving into the coaching profession.

Smith began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Armwood High School Hawks in 2015. He moved to the college ranks as an assistant coach for the College of Central Florida in 2016. In the summers of 2015 and 2016 Smith managed the North Jersey Eagles of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. After the second summer, Smith's career took a slight detour when he worked for seven months on the grounds staff of the Dunedin Blue Jays. From there he joined the St. Petersburg College Titans for the 2017 season and remained there through the year. Smith spent the summer of 2017 as an assistant coach for the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League. The next year was divided between work as a minor league operations assistant with the Pittsburgh Pirates and a fall coaching job at Hillsborough Community College.

Somehow, this meandering path led to the Cleveland Indians. In 2019 Smith was the hitting coach for the DSL Indians. He was promoted to AZL Indians Red hitting coach for 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic caused the cancellation of the minor league season. Smith was hitting coach of the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2021 and Lake County Captains in 2022.
