Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Chris Rusin hit a triple in his first major league at bat in his major league debut for the Chicago Cubs on August 21, 2012 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The hit came off Marco Estrada with one out in the 3rd, but Chris was stranded on third base. He gave up only one hit in 5 innings on the mound that day, but it followed a walk and a pair of hit batsmen in the 4th, leading to a run. That was enough for him to be the losing pitcher in a 5-2 loss. He went 2-3, 6.37 in 7 starts. In 2013, he made 13 starts for the Cubs, with a decent 3.93 ERA, good for an ERA+ of 98, but ended up with a record of 2-6. However, he made only 4 appearances in 2014, all in relief, with no record and an ERA of 7.11. He spent most of all three of those seasons with the AAA Iowa Cubs, notching exactly 8 wins each year (8-9, 8-7, 8-13). The middle year was his best, as his ERA was 3.35 in 121 innings. At the end of the 2014 season, he was claimed off waivers by the Colorado Rockies

Chris got a chance to pitch a lot more in the majors in 2015. On August 16th, he recorded the first complete game and shutout of his career in defeating the San Diego Padres, 4-0. His five-hitter was the first complete game thrown by a Rockies pitcher that year. Overall he went 6-10, 5.33 in 24 games, including 22 starts, logging 131 2/3 innings. He was gradually moved to the bullpen starting in 2016, when he made just 7 starts in 29 games, going 3-5, 3.74. In 2017, he had his best season as a full-time reliever, with a 5-1, 2.65 record in 60 games with 2 saves. He made his first postseason appearance that season, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings in the Rockies' loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Wild Card Game. His statistics were a lot less brilliant in 2018, as his ERA ballooned to 6.09 in 49 games. He pitched another 4 times in the postseason, but did not give up any runs again in 4 more innings. He then started the 2019 season on the injured list, only making his debut on May 31st. It was not his best game, as coming into the 8th inning of a game against the Toronto Blue Jays with a 13-2 lead, he immediately gave up a solo homer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and three more hits and a walk, recording his only out on a sacrifice fly by Randal Grichuk, before having to give way to Jake McGee, having allowed 4 runs.
