Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Cedric Benson was drafted in the 12th round of the 2001 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played in nine games for the GCL Dodgers the next year, hitting .200/.412/.480 with two stolen bases (he was caught 3 times), one run, 2 RBI, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 7 walks, 2 times hit-by-pitch and 10 whiffs in 25 at-bats. He handled 14 chances in the field without an error. That was his only season in professional baseball, as he focused on football afterwards.

Benson was the 4th pick of the NFL draft in 2005 by the Chicago Bears. He ran for over 1,000 yards for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2009, he was 8th in the NFL with 1,251 yards rushing.

He died in a motorcycle accident in 2019 at 36 years old.
