Caroline O'Connor

From BR Bullpen

Caroline O'Connor is the President of business operations for the Miami Marlins, having been appointed to the title on November 14, 2022. She had first joined the Marlins organization in October of 2017 as a Vice-President responsible for business matters. When Derek Jeter left his position as team President in February of 2022, she was one of two women who took over the day-to-day operations, with General Manager Kim Ng in charge of baseball matters. Her formal appointment following the season only made matters official.

She was originally a managing director for Morgan Stanley, an investment bank, then worked for six years as a director at UBS Investment Bank. Her original title with the Marlins in 2017 was Vice-President and Chief of Staff, and in 2019 became Chief Operating Officer. Her chief mission has been to maximize revenues and increase links to the community, particularly the Latin American community in south Florida and the Caribbean.

While some news sources stated that she was the first woman to serve as team President in North American professional men's sports, it was not quite true as Catie Griggs was President of the Seattle Mariners at the time, and Lorinda de Roulet served as Owner and President of the New York Mets in the late 1970s. However, the fact that the Marlins had women in their top two management positions was remarkable.

She grew up in Freehold Township, NJ and graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in computer science. She later obtained an MBA from New York University. While she was a high school athlete, he first employment was with IBM, before moving to finance, and working in sports came a bit by accident.
