Biographical Information[edit]
Brant Hurter made his major league debut with the Detroit Tigers in August of 2024, three years after having been a 7th-round pick by Detroit in the 2021 amateur draft. The lefty was used largely as a "bulk man" in bullpen games after his call-up, usually with righty Beau Brieske serving as the opener. Of his first 8 appearances, 7 were in the role, and he pitched at least three innings each time out. The only exception was on August 27th, when he started and lasted five innings against the Los Angeles Angels, picking up a 6-2 win. On September 13th, he almost made history in the role: after Brieske had retired the first four batters of the game, Brant came out and retired 17 straight Baltimore Orioles players in a row. Adley Rutschman broke the bid for a perfect game when he drew a walk to lead off the 8th, after which Brenan Hanifee kept the no-hitter going until the end of the inning. Tyler Holton came out to pitch the 9th with history on the line and retired the first two batters before Gunnar Henderson hit a triple to break the spell. Holton then struck out Anthony Santander to end the game, preserving the 1-0 win that was credited to Hurter, improving his record on the year to 5-1, 2.56.
