Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Artie Lewicki was an 8th-round pick by the Detroit Tigers in the 2014 amateur draft, out of the University of Virginia. With the Cavaliers, he had been named as one of two pitchers on the all-tournament team in the 2014 College World Series as Virginia lost in the finals to Vanderbilt University.

Lewicki made his major league debut for the Tigers as a starting pitcher against the Kansas City Royals on September 4, 2017, in effect taking the spot in the starting rotation vacated by long-time ace Justin Verlander, who had been traded to the Houston Astros on August 31st. In his first game, he gave up 5 runs on 11 hits in 5 innings and was charged with a 7-6 loss.
