Biographical Information[edit]

Andy Rincon pitched three years in the majors, and had his career shortened by a line drive that fractured his arm.

Coming out of high school, he pitched in the minors from 1977 to 1980, but was not as successful in the minors as he would be in the majors in 1980 and 1981. He came to the majors out of Double A ball.

He made his major league debut in September 1980 as a 21-year-old with the St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched in 4 games with a 3-1 record and a 2.62 ERA, on a team whose overall ERA was 3.93. The next season, 1981, he was 3-1 with a 1.77 ERA in 5 games, but on May 9th he was hit by a line drive off the bat of Phil Garner of the Pittsburgh Pirates which put him on the disabled list. He pitched a couple of games back in Double A.

He came back with the Cardinals to pitch 11 games in 1982 before his last one on May 22nd. His ERA was 4.72, and in the 40 innings he pitched he gave up 25 walks while only getting 11 strikeouts. In previous years his control had been excellent.

The Cardinals went on to win the 1982 World Series, so Rincon got a World Series ring his last year. The Cardinals released him in October 1983, and while the Pittsburgh Pirates signed him a month later, he never came to the majors with them.

Rincon was a coach for the Savannah Cardinals in 1990.
