Biographical Information

Alfredo García was an early baseball star in Nicaragua. He was a P-1B in Nicaragua in the 1920s-1940s, playing for Fidalefia, Managa and Esfinge.

He pitched for the Nicaraguan national team in the 1938 Central American and Caribbean Games, striking out nine in a win over Venezuela. He helped Nicaragua win the Bronze Medal. He also played in the 1939 Amateur World Series (Silver Medal), beating Team USA 2-0, 7-3 and 7-2 but losing 3-2 to Cuba though other sources list Pedro "Natilla" Jiménez as the event leader in wins.

García pitched in the 1940 Amateur World Series and Nicaragua again got the Silver Medal. He was back for the 1941 Amateur World Series and 1944 Amateur World Series. He moved to Honduras, where he married and raised a family and continued his baseball career. He played for the Honduras national team in the 1950 Amateur World Series and 1950 Central American and Caribbean Games, perhaps making him the first player to appear on two national teams. He later returned to Nicaragua (playing for them in the 1952 Amateur World Series and 1953 Amateur World Series) and was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame in 1997, a year after his death.
