Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Alex Wells is the twin brother of Lachlan Wells. The Baltimore Orioles signed him on August 29, 2015. He began his pro career in 2016 with the Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York-Penn League, where he was 4-5, 2.15 in 13 starts. In 2017, he went 11-5, 2.38 with the Delmarva Shorebirds. He made 25 starts and pitched 140 innings, with an exceptional K/W ratio of 113/10. He was named the Orioles' minor league pitcher of the year. In 2018, he was with the Frederick Keys of the Carolina League and was 7-8, 3.47. He made 24 starts and pitched 135 innings. He was named to the World Team for the 2018 Futures Game. For the third straight season, he was a mid-season All-Star.

He was on the roster of the Australian national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic, but did not see action in any games. He does not throw particularly hard, as his fastball tops out at 91 mph, but he thrives on outstanding control and two excellent secondary pitches, a curve and a change-up.
