Biographical Information[edit]

Alexandre Inozemtsev was on the Ukrainian national team.

He played team handball in the Ukraine before switching to baseball in 1987, after Cuban college students brought the game to the Soviet Union. He was on the first Ukrainian team, winning the 1994 B Pool European Championship in their first tournament to advance to the 1995 European Championship. [1] He was the starting right fielder and cleanup hitter in their 1995 Euros opener, going 0 for 3 against the Dutch national team's Erik Lommerde and Rob Cordemans. He had his first hit the next day, versus France. He finished the Euros at .200/.385/.200 with 3 runs and 2 RBI in 7 games, fielding .875 and going 3-for-3 in steals. He tied Iouri Tourchenko for the team lead in walks (5) and steals. [2]

Inozemtsev was 3-for-3 in steals in the 1997 European Championship as well, tying him for 4th in swipes, behind Marc Marsch, Jamel Boutagra and Luka Kreitmayer. [3] In the 2001 European Championship, the veteran hit .182/.308/.182 with four runs and four RBI in seven games, going 2-for-3 in steal attempts. Now used as an infielder, he tied for 5th in the event with four errors; he also tied for 10th in steals. [4]
