Biographical Information[edit]

Al Humphrey played eight games for the 1911 Brooklyn Dodgers. He mostly played center field, making only one error, although it was an error that impacted the game in question. His .185 batting average sounds low, but the team average was .237 and the team's regular third baseman, Eddie Zimmerman, also hit .185 while the catcher, Bill Bergen, hit .132.

Al had previously played three years in the minors, mostly with the Charlotte Hornets.

"YOUNG HUMPHREY has been with the team and has done fairly well in the outfield. . . He is a . . . a pretty good thrower. He gets around the bases well. What bothered him most was the big stands. They throw so many shadows across the field that he said he could not see the ball." - Sporting Life, September 16, 1911
