History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2025 Baltimore Orioles started the season with a bang - literally - as they bashed six homers in crushing the Toronto Blue Jays, 12-2, on Opening Day, played on March 27th at the Rogers Centre. That was even though the team's best player in 2024, SS Gunnar Henderson, had to start the season on the injured list with a muscle strain. The Bords' second batter of the game, Adley Rutschman, homered off José Berríos in the 1st, and the O's scored in six of their nine turns at bat. Rutschman ended up with two homers, as did Cedric Mullins, who drove in five runs, with new acquisition Tyler O'Neill and Jordan Westburg also going deep. In O'Neill's case, it was a record sixth straight opening game in which he had homered, bettering a record of which he was already the sole holder. He went 3 for 3 with 2 walks, and all nine batters in the line-up reached base at least once via hit or walk. The six homers were an Orioles Opening Day record (their previous best mark had been four) and were tied for second-best in AL/NL history since 1901. Before Rutschman and Mullins did so, only two other players in franchise history had homered twice on Opening Day: Brooks Robinson and Sam Horn. It was also the third straight year in which the O's had scored 10 or more runs in their first game of the season. The beneficiary of all this offense was Zach Eflin, who gave up just 2 runs on 2 hits in 6 innings.
