2018 National Baseball Congress World Series
The 2018 National Baseball Congress World Series was won by the Santa Barbara Foresters for a record seventh time. Santa Barbara beat the NJCAA National Team in the final 6-5. Remarkably all seven of their championships have come since 2006. Foresters RF Patrick Mathis, a former Houston Astros minor leaguer, was named tournament MVP.
The M.I.N.K. Baseball League, represented by the Clarinda A's, returned to the tournament this year after skipping the event in 2017. Clarinda went 0-3. The Jayhawk League failed to have a single team in the final eight despite sending four teams to the tournament. Eleven of the 30 teams taking part came from the state of Kansas.
The NBC World Series again went with the "First Week" and "Championship Week" format. Both First Week qualifiers, the San Antonio Angels and Colorado Cyclones, also won their respective Championship Week groups. The Angels making it as far as the semi finals.
It was the final edition of the tournament to be held in historic Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita, KS; the ballpark was demolished at the end of that year to make way for a state-of-the-art facility.
