The thirty-sixth tournament's champion was the University of Miami coached by Ron Fraser. The Most Outstanding Player was Dan Smith of the University of Miami. The championship game is famous for Miami's "Grand Illusion" in which Miami picked off a Wichita State runner by pretending the ball had been thrown away.
